The work I was always meant to do

# ~20 years of doing what didn't fit — before finding what did.

Since 2006, through every up and down, I worked in things I never truly accepted as mine. It started with sales at Yellow Pages, right before I graduated in 2007. Then came the work I'm still quietly proud of — years on the street as a Direct Dialogue Representative for organisations like Greenpeace and UNICEF, walking up to strangers face-to-face to talk about protecting children and the environment. And finally, the insurance sector. I was never very good at the selling part, and I knew it. But there was always one thing people did come to me for.

Whenever something needed figuring out — a computer setting, a TV that wouldn't behave, an electronic device, an Excel sheet, a Word document, someone's project — I was the one they called. "Ask Urmi, she'll fix it." That part came naturally. That was always me.

Under social pressure, and following my brother who studied BBA, I felt I had to have one too. So I did. I walked a path that was never fully mine, and for a long time I never accepted who I actually was, or how I actually worked.

# 2023 — the reset.

Then in 2023 everything changed. After my IBS diagnosis, followed by pancreatic fat, I was put on complete bed rest — healing through food. I couldn't continue in insurance; I'd been a manager at Max Life, work I was never good at anyway.

And there, in that bed-rest healing stretch, I learned blogging. Because that's who I am — I don't back down on life. I asked myself: what more is there? I can't live like this. So on that learning voyage I taught myself, through my own mistakes, through doing — the things my soul is actually connected to.

This typing through a keyboard. Solving problems from the inside out. Knowing the unknown. That's what I wake up for every day — not just to do work, but to do what I'm meant to do in this life.

The other half of the story

The same 2023 reset that pushed me toward the web also began with food. During my bed-rest healing, I built CalorieMatterss — a blog for IBS-friendly, low-FODMAP, high-protein Indian cooking, born from my own journey with IBS and healing.

Two brands, one person. One heals the gut; one builds the web. Both are me, doing what I'm meant to do — joyful, and standing by all of it.
